Kansas Crop Progress: Wheat Harvest Well Ahead of Average
MANHATTAN, Kan. — Kansas farmers had 4.9 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending June 14, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 12% very short, 24% short, 53% adequate and 11% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies were rated 14% very short, 27% short, 53% adequate and 6% surplus.
Winter wheat
Winter wheat condition was rated 25% very poor, 32% poor, 29% fair, 14% good and 0% excellent.
Winter wheat coloring reached 95%, ahead of 86% last year and 84% for the five-year average. Mature wheat reached 83%, well ahead of 35% last year and 40% average. Harvest was 28% complete, well ahead of 3% last year and 8% average.
Corn
Corn condition was rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 32% fair, 52% good and 11% excellent.
Corn planted was 98%, near 96% last year and 97% average. Emerged was 90%, near 87% last year and 88% average. Silking was 3%, near 1% both last year and average.
Soybeans, sorghum and sunflowers
Soybean condition was rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 28% fair, 60% good and 7% excellent. Soybeans planted reached 87%, ahead of 81% last year and 82% average. Emerged was 74%, ahead of 68% both last year and average.
Sorghum planted was 54%, equal to last year and behind the 60% average. Sunflowers planted reached 63%, ahead of 53% last year and 54% average.
Cotton
Cotton condition was rated 9% very poor, 15% poor, 41% fair, 34% good and 1% excellent. Cotton planted was 96%, near 92% both last year and average. Squaring was 15%, ahead of 2% last year and 9% average.
Pasture and range
Pasture and range conditions were rated 8% very poor, 15% poor, 31% fair, 39% good and 7% excellent.
